Tumblr getting mixed up.

rnatot:

Why is it that the loudest voices are coming from those who are supposedly “on the margins”?

Could it be because those people aren’t actually marginalized as much as they believe they are?

Tumblr does not hear the vast majority of indigenous voices, because the vast majority of indigenous voices are still being silenced.  Having accessible internet access is still a luxury in a lot of our communities.  This is marginalization.

No schools, or inadequate infrastructure.  This is marginalization.

No potable water, environmental poisons from nearby large-scale developments. Denial after denial that our people are getting cancer from tailing ponds. This is marginalization.

No adequate treatment for addictions, insufficient health service.  This is marginalization.

Wilted lettuce that costs five times what it does down south.  This is marginalization.

Missing and murdered and seen as garbage, always assumed to be prostitutes as though this justifies our deaths.  “High risk lifestyle”?  Being visible Native American is a high risk lifestyle.  This is marginalization.

Headdresses.  Struggling with people taking you for white.  Struggling with people taking you for black.  That is what Tumblr hears about.  People claiming to be marginalized and oppressed.  People who speak more loudly than anyone else.  People who speak over Native Americans who are real, living breathing members of their Nation.  People who are upset about being outside, demanding to be let in.

That is not how it works.  You do not get to ignore all of your privilege and pretend that you experience the same marginalization.  You do not get to cry about not being accepted, when you do not live our lives and never have.  You do not get our sympathy because that “wasn’t your choice”.  It was not our choice either.

How can you possibly “be one of us” when you refuse to listen to our concerns about the identities you claim for yourselves?  You can pretend that our refusal to accept this is a form of colonization, and ignore the irony inherent in you yourselves telling us who we must accept and on what grounds.  You can do this, but we see you doing it.

If you were raised outside, disconnected, or are only vaguely, minutely Native American, you need to stop speaking so loudly.  You need to listen, and learn.  You need to become familiar with our communities and our voices.  You cannot create these things in your head and then guide yourselves with the images you have fabricated.  You may not notice that you are doing this, but we see you.

We see you.

You do not see us.  You do not know us at all.  And until you do, you will never be among us.

Cow based Economics lesson

stickychecklist:

SOCIALISM
You have 2 cows.
You give one to your neighbour.

COMMUNISM
You have 2 cows.
The State takes both and gives you some milk.

FASCISM
You have 2 cows.
The State takes both and sells you some milk.

NAZISM
You have 2 cows.
The State takes both and shoots you.

BUREAUCRATISM
You have 2 cows.
The State takes both, shoots one, milks the other, and then throws the milk away.

TRADITIONAL CAPITALISM
You have two cows.
You sell one and buy a bull.
Your herd multiplies, and the economy grows.
You sell them and retire on the income.

ROYAL BANK OF SCOTLAND (VENTURE) CAPITALISM
You have two cows.
You sell three of them to your publicly listed company, using letters of credit opened by your brother-in-law at the bank, then execute a debt/equity swap with an associated general offer so that you get all four cows back, with a tax exemption for five cows.
The milk rights of the six cows are transferred via an intermediary to a Cayman Island Company secretly owned by the majority shareholder who sells the rights to all seven cows back to your listed company.
The annual report says the company owns eight cows, with an option on one more.
You sell one cow to buy a new president of the United States , leaving you with nine cows.
No balance sheet provided with the release.
The public then buys your bull.

SURREALISM
You have two giraffes.
The government requires you to take harmonica lessons.

AN AMERICAN CORPORATION
You have two cows.
You sell one, and force the other to produce the milk of four cows.
Later, you hire a consultant to analyse why the cow has dropped dead.

A FRENCH CORPORATION
You have two cows.
You go on strike, organize a riot, and block the roads, because you want three cows.

A JAPANESE CORPORATION
You have two cows.
You redesign them so they are one-tenth the size of an ordinary cow and produce twenty times the milk.
You then create a clever cow cartoon image called a Cowkimona and market it worldwide.

AN ITALIAN CORPORATION
You have two cows, but you don’t know where they are.
You decide to have lunch.

A SWISS CORPORATION
You have 5000 cows. None of them belong to you.
You charge the owners for storing them.

A CHINESE CORPORATION
You have two cows.
You have 300 people milking them.
You claim that you have full employment, and high bovine productivity.
You arrest the newsman who reported the real situation.

AN INDIAN CORPORATION
You have two cows.
You worship them.

A BRITISH CORPORATION
You have two cows.
Both are mad.

AN IRAQI CORPORATION
Everyone thinks you have lots of cows.
You tell them that you have none.
No-one believes you, so they bomb the crap out of you and invade your country.
You still have no cows, but at least you are now a Democracy.

AN AUSTRALIAN CORPORATION
You have two cows.
Business seems pretty good.
You close the office and go for a few beers to celebrate.

A NEW ZEALAND CORPORATION
You have two cows.
The one on the left looks very attractive.

Ridiculous people in Mississippi are Ridiculous.   If shit like this passes.. I might actually have to move out of MS for medical reasons.. so fucking ridiculous.  This is why I hate religion//living in the bible belt aka the noose of idiocracy.

It has so many far-reaching consequences:
It could also ban commonly used forms of contraception that many Mississippi women use - like the pill, the IUD, and ban important technologies that families count on, like in vitro fertilization.
It would prevent life-saving treatments for pregnant women who face conditions like cancer.
It sets out to ban all abortion in any circumstance, even in cases of rape or incest.
And since this amendment affects over 9,000 Mississippi laws, it will have unintended consequences and costs for the state of Mississippi for years to come, in legal fees and other government spending

Signal boost!

This is ridiculous. Signal boost!

Not just women. ALL people who are capable of becoming pregnant!

Signal boost.

Ummm— a LOT of women use and need birth control for other reasons besides contraception.  I take birth control because I have endomitriosis and a history of ovarian cysts.  It also acts as a hormone balancer.
So yeah— VOTE NO guys.

Elsbeth: AGAIN guys?! seriously, stop trying to pass this. you’ve failed twice. GTFO.
Astrid: What Elsbeth is trying to articulate is that passing an amendment that defines “personhood” as the moment of conception, cloning or functional equivalent thereof is an incredibly stupid and socially irresponsible thing to do.
This is the part when I say something stereotypically libertarian like: “THEM DAMN FASCISTS TRYIN’ TO CONTROL US PEOPLES BODIES!”

Guest Post: The Debt Crisis and Why You Need to Fucking Care

Astrid: By Speck. I had to give up Bill O’Reilly for this. So pay attention.

Petra: Astrid is trying to say that this post is extremely informative and that she finds it so valuable that she has agreed to stop listening to bullshit in order to have the privilege to post it.

EVERY SINGLE AMERICAN needs to know EXACTLY whats going on because this whole debt ceiling thing is just the inciting spark to a nuclear explosion of our government and everything americans hold dear to their luxurious existence these are not shock tactics literally we are near to being over as a country

heres the deal best i can explain it:

giggle at the ghostie!

so Petra and I really, really love this show, and I think Astrid might too! (we’ve caught her watching from atop the mantle a few times, silly siamese.)

Petra says she is obviously Pinkie Pie & Applejack incarnate, while I’m Twilight Sparkle & Fluttershy, mew.

that means Astrid is Rarity & Rainbow Dash which I think is v fitting. anyways.

posting this song because I think it is good to remember that when someone posts bullshit or mean things or things you don’t agree with, it’s best to just stay calm and find some humor in it, instead of blowing a fucking gasket at every little offense.

that’s not healthy! being angry all the time is bad for you! instead of raging over every offense just take a deep breath and stay rational at all times! channel your anger into productivity!

debates are about rational, logical argument and disputing counter-points. being the loudest and most angry in the room won’t make your argument any more legitimate, and other people won’t listen because they don’t want to hear angry, self-indulgent, anecdotal evidence that boils down to ad hominem.

MLK was a great example of this! he channeled his anger and passion into riveting speeches that made people go YEAH!

make people go YEAH! and giggle at the ghostie! also maybe take up yoga.

An advertisement from today’s NY Times Sunday Styles. Allll the rage. Fuck your body policing, fuck your fat shaming, fuck your pitiful attempt at being progressive. Gross gross gross.

“your body can” stop you from getting married? what the actual fuck is that? that doesn’t even make actual sense, beyond (to use your word, @heartbrokeandinchoate) the really gross message that nobody wants to marry a fat person. i don’t even know how to address “your sexual orientation can’t stop you from getting married.”

this is really hilarious in a super!fail kind of way

(Source: light-undiluted)

so looking at the most prominent GOP candidates for this upcoming election year, I will tell you right now as to why we will all probably be voting Democrat, even little ole Republican me, as much as it pains me to say it.

  • Michelle Bachmann- Has a “gay curing” husband. For some reason constantly is talking about slavery. We’ve yet to figure out why. Most things she says concern us, yes even me. Doesn’t believe all cultures are equal. Blames Obama for swine flu (?!) (among other things, ie: believing excess CO2 is perfectly fine). Thinks preventing gay marriage should be the NUMERO UNO priority. Uh, okay hun. We’ll just ignore that big ole money pit we’ve been calling a war. Wants to remove minimum wage. Most likely a fundamentalist. Possibly racist. Likes to say slavery like Beck said Nazi.
  • Herman Cain- Not the worst of the bunch. However, he doesn’t really seem to actually understand the Constitution. Either that or he just really likes to contradict himself.
  • Newt Gringrich- Kind of Pretty Racist. Unusual stance on immigration (favors guest worker program), which is actually interesting… but… still quacks like a bigot. Loves to pull the Nazi card. Nazi Card = NO in my books.
  • Fred Karger- WHY ARE YOU ON THE INDEPENDANT TICKET. I REALLY LIKE YOUR STANCE ON SOCIAL ISSUES. YOU ARE A FISCAL CONSERVATIVE. I WANT TO GIVE YOU A HUG. GOD, WHY ARE YOU NOT RUNNING AS REPUBLICAN WE NEED SOMEONE LIKE YOU.
  • Ron Paul- I really don’t want a traditional libertarian running around the oval office. Sorry Ron, while I don’t agree with all of your stances, you do have some neat ideas… but I can’t get behind someone who refuses to raise any taxes or actually be proactive about the economy. Also your foreign policy scares me a little bit. Petra & I will probably post about you later. Elsbeth already has her GObama 2012 shirt on so she’s not going to be much help.
  • Mitt Romney- Mormon Mormon Mormon Mormon Mormon Mormon Mormon… I recognize this isn’t really fair to judge, but to be honest… the power the LDS church already has scares the fucking crap out of me. Will also probably post on this later.
  • Sarah Palin- Apparently hasn’t actually declared her presidential run yet. But as a rational, educated cat, I just cannot back her. I don’t even know what the fuck her point is half the time.

Anyways, that’s the list as of now. Hoping Fred Karger will gain some popularity in the next thirteen or so months. (Petra is making those “JOIN THE INDEPENDANT PARTY, ASTRID” eyes at me. Ugh Petra. No just no.)

As of now… it pains me to say… Obama is looking like a mighty fine choice. Will continue to keep track of Ron Paul & maybe some others. I wonder if NPR has interviewed any of these guys yet?

Anyways, Jon Stewart is on meow, and I promised Petra I would watch with her. Until later!
